Circle 6503 - Designed by an unnamed artist for Nordiska, 1960
Kit contains 1960's Nordiska print on contemporary linen, measuring 50 x 50 cm, 7 x 14m skiens of linen threads. Two printed cards are included: one card with a photograph of the original artwork, an English translation of stitches used, and a brief history of its origins. The other card describes the 24 common stitches used by Nordiska in their kits.
This embroidery kit requires improvising, the original 1960's pattern chart for this kit has not been found.
The Swedish embroidery company Nordiska/NIAB was founded in 1879 and designed patterns for over 100 years. Near two thousand hand drawn patterns from 1960 - 1969 were recently documented, and Circle 6530 is our first reprint from the NIAB embroidery archive.
Very few instructions have survived time, therefore these kits invite you to improvise with colours and stitches.
When first published, Circe 6503 was printed on blue linen and embroidered with white cotton thread. So far, the original pattern chart for this kit has not been found, and you will need to decide where to add the colours and stitches.
