Lopare (Circle Chain) 5980 - Designed by Birgitta Salenius for Nordiska (N.I.A.B) of Gothenburg, Sweden.
Kit contains 1960's Nordiska print on contemporary linen, measuring approx 73 x 36cm, 7 x 14m skiens of linen threads. Two printed cards are included: one card with a photograph of the original artwork, an English translation of stitches used, and a brief history of its origins. The other card describes the 24 common stitches used by Nordiska in their kits.
The Swedish embroidery company Nordiska/NIAB was founded in 1879 and designed patterns for over 100 years. Their archive was recently unearthed to reveal thousands of embroidery patterns for all season. Very few instructions have survived time, therefore these kits invite you to improvise with colours and stitches.
Lopare (Chain Circle) 5980 was originally printed on coloured linen and it was intended that it would be made into a table cloth. The linen fabric has been screen printed in Sweden not far from the archive and linen thread is dyed n Sweden by a master dyer who learned the trade as a young man. The card shows part of the original pattern drawings made prior to production of the kits.
